Fiets Depot (aka Bike Jail)

So, if you lock your bike to a large cement pole, but the entire pole and your bike are gone when you come back, you'll need to go on a Dutchtastic Adventure with your trusty sidekick Erin to get your bike back. Just ask Heidi :)

First, you'll need to take a 5 minute train ride from Central Station (which has a Starbucks!!) very early on Saturday morning to the west side of town:

And then you have to take a bus even further out to the middle of nowhere, where there's pretty much nothing as far as the eye can see:

The final stage of your journey will be a brisk walk, following the signs:

Heidi, how do you feel about Amsterdam's policy of confiscating bikes with no warning?

Amsterdam ♥s bikes so much it carts them off to a field in the middle of nowhere :)

 Hello bikes!

I think it's nice that they've decorated the impound lot with a splash of color:

Bad bikes get put on the pile:

Reunited and it feels so good:

And that is how you can help Heidi rescue her bike in just 4 hours.

  1. Um, but why did they take her bike? And how on earth did you find it and then prove it was hers???

  2. They were doing construction. There may or may not have been signs posted, which may or may not have been in Dutch. Super organized - you tell them when and where your bike was taken from and they know exactly where it is. She had her keys as proof :)
